Eye of the Needle1670 viewsI decided this was an important part of Queen 2 pawn 7 when I finished it. The other 2 pieces speak of the industrialization, pollution, and global warming and its effects. This piece shows the greed of man who stands and watches the destruction of the earth while doing nothing except make money. I also had the verse "Its easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven".

Nikau palm II1583 viewsI enjoy looking at the natural environment around me and constantly find myself drawn to the wonderful forms of the New Zealand bush. In this piece I explore the contrasting shapes of the Nikau Palm – the soft curves and sharp angles of the fronds, the rough rings where old fronds have broken away and the smooth trunk, and the tangle of berries.

sea shell1511 viewsI found a broken shell on the beach which showed the beautiful soft curves of the inside we don't usually see. This was the basis of this idea.

A Taste of Elegance1510 viewsThis is one of the most time consuming pieces I have ever carved! It took months - to carve out the bowl of the glass, drill thousands of holes to make the laceyness, shape the leaves, and the sanding was a nightmare.
But this piece while formal, is super elegant. I uplight it at night to show the shadows and form. Its one of my current favourites.

fern bowl (top)1494 viewsLooking down on the fern bowl you can see the repeated swirls from the bowl down through the column. I like the feeling of movement.

Fate1490 viewsTwisting form - similiar to Mobius with more twists and more upright stance. When I was carving this life was going through a bit of a bad patch in my life and it made me think how life twists from going through a good phase, and then a bad, and then good... etc. I suppose we have to have the bad, to appreciate the good?

fern bowl1481 viewsA few months ago I was asked to make a birdbath. I was given dimensions for the bowl, but after I started rounding out the outside I was emailed to say they had given me the wrong dimensions. For a long time the round top sat un-formed and alone, then one day I thought of this... based on fern leaves and fronds.
Stands 925mm high. Bowl 400mm across

Lizard Sun Dial1479 viewsI usually make individual lizards basking on a rock but in this piece I decided that it would be fun having lizards scampering up a column.
